These meetings successfully put together sessions on the emergence of new objects of study in a global-local context, a concern that very much needed treatment. Because of the excellent and wide-ranging commentaries that followed each of the papers, I will offer here a discussion focused on more general points of diagnosis about the current state of the anthropological treatment of this topic. These general points were quite variantly and diversely reflected in specific papers (423).
