David Thompson

David Thompson is a doctoral candidate in sociocultural anthropology at the University of California, Berkeley, whose research examines the role of prisons within contemporary Brazilian democracy. His doctoral research considers the legal and moral injunction to "resocialize" the incarcerated within the men's prison system in Rio de Janeiro and the uses to which the promise of reform is put—by both prison workers and the incarcerated—within a context of punitive violence.
