M. Gabriela Torres

M. Gabriela Torres is a cultural anthropologist who specializes in the study of violence—particularly gender-based violence—and state formation. She is Professor of Anthropology, Co-Coordinator of the Public Health Program, and Codirector of the Center for Collaborative Teaching and Learning at Wheaton College. Her scholarship has been published in journals including Anthropologica, the Anthropology of Work Review, the Bulletin of Latin American Research, the Journal of Poverty, and the Latin American Research Review. Her most recent coedited book (with Kersti Yllö) is entitled Marital Rape: Consent, Marriage, and Social Change in Global Context. She also works regularly as a pro bono expert witness on gender-based violence and Guatemala country conditions.
