Cultural Anthropology announces a transition in its production team. It is with tremendous gratitude that we bid farewell to Jessica Lockrem, who with great skill and dedication as managing editor has led the journal through the pandemic to date without missing a beat in our production schedule. We congratulate her in her new publishing position at Fortress Press. We are further pleased to welcome Kate Herman and Matthew Sebastian to our team! Kate will serve as interim managing editor and Mathew as interim editorial assistant to see us into the new year.
Jessica Lockrem has accepted a position as Senior Production Editor at Fortress Press, the academic imprint at 1517 Media. Jessica has worked as the editorial assistant for Cultural Anthropology for the past eight years and as the managing editor for the past two and a half years. Prior to working for the journal, she had been an editorial intern (contributing editor) since 2010. She received her PhD in anthropology from Rice University in 2016.
Kate Herman received her MSLS from UNC-Chapel Hill in 2020 following several years in and around academic publishing, including managing a small open access press, working in the Duke Press acquisitions department, and leading a feasibility study to assess the interest in a cooperative model among experimental, scholar-led open access publications as part of Libraria’s Cooperate for Open project. Kate is also the project manager for the Next Generation Library Publishing project.
Matthew Sebastian completed his PhD in Cultural Anthropology from Duke University. He studies youth, security, humanitarianism, and post-conflict transformation. He is also the founder and director of Rationale, an education and collaborative research initiative in northern Uganda.
