Joel Kuipers is Professor of Anthropology and International Affairs at the George Washington University in Washington, D.C. He is a linguistic anthropologist who has conducted long-term ethnographic research in Indonesia and, more recently, in the United States on language and media among high school cellphone users and on COVID-19 funerals.
