Shyam Lal

Shyam Lal is a Gaddi shepherd who spent more than 8 years serving their family tradition of herding, before venturing into the field of mountaineering. He believes that with the rapid change in socio-economic and ecological landscape of the Himalayas, the culture of the pastoral communities are being driven to the fringes. He wishes to work in grassroots initiatives and research that help document and revive their local practices that allow people to live harmoniously with nature.
