Susana Durão is an anthropologist of the police and policing. For many years she worked at the University of Lisbon where she was one of the few specialists researching the urban police and the community policing programs from a qualitative angle. In 2013 she moved to São Paulo. She teaches social and cultural anthropology at the prestigious State University of Campinas (UNICAMP). Her main areas of interest are public/private security assemblages and the expansion of the markets of protection in Brazil.
