From the Series: Publishing Infrastructure
This episode of AnthroPod is the second of a two-part series on publishing in academia. We go behind-the-scenes of academic publishing, looking to the past and the future with the incoming editors of Cultural Anthropology, Dominic Boyer, James Faubion, and Cymene Howe; the first editor of Cultural Anthropology, George Marcus; and former acquisitions editor at Princeton University Press currently doing research on the future of the book, Mary Murrell. Part 1 featured Anne Allison, Tom Boellstorff, and Tim Elfenbein.
Dominic Boyer, James Faubion, and Cymene Howe are the incoming editors of Cultural Anthropology (2015-2018).
George Marcus is Chancellor's Professor and Chair in the Department of Anthropology at University of California Irvine. Professor Marcus was the first editor of Cultural Anthropology.
Mary Murrell is A.W. Mellon Postdoctoral Fellow in the Department of Anthropology at the University of Wisconsin - Madison. Mary Murrell received her Ph.D. in sociocultural anthropology from the University of California, Berkeley, in 2012. Before earning her Ph.D., Mary was an acquisitions editor at Princeton University Press, where she acquired titles in the humanities and social sciences.
