Mattijs van de Port is an anthropologist and filmmaker at the University of Amsterdam and Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. His publications include Gypsies, Wars, and Other Instances of the Wild (1998) and Ecstatic Encounters: Bahian Candomblé and the Quest for the Really Real (2011). He is also the director of two documentary films: The Possibility of Spirits (2016) and Knots and Holes: An Essay Film on the Life of Nets (2018).
