Melissa Demian is Senior Lecturer in Social Anthropology at the University of St. Andrews. She has worked for over twenty years on the changing nature of social life in Papua New Guinea, focusing variously on colonial history, legal pluralism, customary law, kinship and gender, domestic violence, and urbanization.
