Gabriela Ortiz is a Chicana, first-gen PhD student in medical anthropology at UC Riverside. Her research interests are largely shaped by her upbringing in the Santa Maria Valley to farm-working parents. Among these interests are structural violence, neoliberalism, and health care. Her dissertation focuses on healthcare infrastructures and access to health services among Latinx and Indigenous Purepecha farm-working communities in the Eastern Coachella Valley.
